My Rating: 4/5

Review: The book is a romantic fiction, where the lead character has been described and holds the spotlight from beginning to end. Kaira Kapoor is like every other girl, who is bubbly, chirpy and sarcastic at the same time. She is an independent girl, whose life revolves around her family and her work “Cafe Library”. The concept of Cafes has been quite fresh in novels these days, where everyone holds a special place for books and coffee of course. Her life revolves more around Tasha, her best friend, who is also her sister-in-law. I believe it is a privilege to be in a family where you can have your best friend around you all the time. The author has beautifully described the chemistry between brother-sister (Sam and Kai), besties (Tasha and Kai), and employee- boss (Kai and her gang at cafe). I have been reading the book for a while trying to understand the plot, then with the mention of hospital and pregnancy of Tasha, I was expecting sad moment. However, it is a happy plot so there is entry of Angel and then of course we have “Devil”. The chemistry between Aveer and Kai has been very catchy where the couple has been on a tiff since the time they met accidentally and of course, for business after a while. I wasn’t expecting a heart break story about Kai, where Drew (Tasha’a brother) was a total jerk who treated Kai badly. The re-entry of Drew during the birth of Angel, brought innumerable uncomfortable moments in their lives. The plot towards the end has been way to romantic and quite Bollywood. I would leave this review as an open ended one for the readers to plunge deep in the story.

Some of my favourite lines from the book:

“Being the boss has its downside”

“We women are made of steel when it comes to motherhood”

“All brothers are over-protective”

“Jogging through the memory lane sure is an exhausting task”

Blurb: Sandy Raman, stringer for the BBC, lives as a paying guest with the Sawants, a regular, quiet, Indian family. Or so she thought. Until she woke up to a woman with a knife … and a dark secret. It is only after she runs a sting operation on a home for the differently abled that Sandy makes a connection between an institute acting as a front for something sinister and the strange family she lives with. Chasing the truth up a trail of brutal murders, Sandy must evade the grasping clutches of a thriving sex racket and expose the predators before her time runs out.

My Rating: 4/5

Review: The book is a thriller based on the life events encountered by the lead character, Sandy Raman, who moves to London from India to pursue her Masters in media governance. I was pretty confused in the beginning when the plot transition happened from the scene of Mumbai terror attack and a panting girlfriend, to the scene of a girl sleep walking in London and the sudden appearance of Nirmal and Asha. The author has done a well researched work with the medical ailments and deaths of people during the course of the plot. The plot is mainly a psychotic thriller where Sandy encounters weird instances at the Sawants’. Sensing the involvement of the host family in a larger heinous crime Sandy is impelled to act in a manner that blows off the lid of a huge social evil. She had witnessed a series of incidents in her own life, where she lost people close to her heart and she was not mentally ready to encounter the dark secrets that lay hidden in the Sawant household . From day one, Sandy had always blamed her brother for signing her up with the crazy Sawants. The author has managed to bring in the luck factor that helps Sandy survive. The plot is engaging from the beginning to the end. However somewhere along the line the medical issue gets lost in the intricate plot . Nevertheless, the author has done a commendable job with the plot as a debutant author.

Book Review- Stripes Recruitment

Author: Luke Melia (Goodreads Author)

Review: The book would either leave you motivated or confused, if you aren’t paying much attention to what Stripes, the Tiger has to convey. The story is about a tiger who has been looking out for a better job. The author has been quite successful in depicting the corporate culture of interviews, candidate’s mind, interview smile, and of course rejections. Stripes has been disappointed after most of his interviews, quite similar to everyone of us, who would have been rejected in all walks of life. Humanization of an animal like tiger has been one of the best imaginative feature of this book. There are very minimum character in the story, with Misa as Stripe’s wife, and Hugo- his office colleague cum friend. There is a different kind of optimism depicted in the behavior of Stripes in spite of numerous rejection. “Being a tiger in a human world has its challenges.” The end of story is really motivating. I think everyone should give a read to this one as it would be also one of the shortest read. The book has been written in very simple language, with limited use of complex vocabulary. It would be one of the best sellers, if added as corporate read where the employees would relate to the incident of interviews and rejections. Stripes has been one of the best described character in a corporate set-up. The book cover is quite cool, with a simplified purple-pink background and of course Stripes on it.
